Each time I run a survey I learn more about where the big gaps are in the education people are getting about how to run an online business. So here is one of the questions that I received over and over again, and my answer.
Question: "I've bought all these courses, but still have don't have a business up and running. Help me please to put this all together and get started!"
Answer: I got several variations of this questions that basically all said "I still need to get started. How do I do that?" It's probably no coincidence that the number three "most needed information" response to the survey was an Internet Marketing Starter Guide. I'll be producing that guide soon, but here is what I'd suggest:
Most people go about starting an online entirely the wrong way because the first thing they think of is whether they want to run an infoproduct business, an affiliate business, an online store, an adsense site. . . or some other kind of online business.
But really the first question you should ask yourself is "Who do I want to serve, and how do I want to serve them?" There's no value in a business if you're not creating or adding value to someone else.
Heck, if you don't create value, either the money won't ever start or it will stop soon after it does.
So first decide on who your customer is, and how you can help them.
Once you make that decision, you should then look at yourself. What do you like to do and what are your strengths?
The beginning of your internet marketing business is going to be slow going, so you really need to have passion and a drive to get through those startup phases.
In other words, what you're doing day to day has got to be fun and enjoyable for you.
And fulfilling.
Chances are, you've already got a day job — or just left one — and want to start up an online business to be your own boss, enjoy a liberated life, and be an entrepreneur. Well you sure can do that, but there's no point in even trying if all you're going to be doing is creating for yourself another job. . .
. . . a job with a boss who makes you work longer and harder than your last one.
Nobody needs that, least of all you.
Tomorrow, I'll give you 7 steps for starting an infoproduct business of your own. But before you read that, go back and re-read this message and answer the questions honestly for yourself. You might discover something you didn't know before.
**Private Marketing Consultations**
Mixed in with the comments and questions were a few requests for private consultations, which I've taken on from time to time, but not recently.
Sometimes, you just need someone to take you by the hand to help you get to where you want to go, whether it's near the beginning of your Online business — still trying to get your first website up and running — or if you have a running business that you are eager to improve.
I have made space for four new consultation clients. You can learn more here.
